Lube 101

New to lube and not sure where to start? Don't like the lube you have? Tired of jacking it with your roomate's Jergens a la Zack and Miri Make a Porno? Well, you came (pun intended) to the right place!

Here are a few things that you should ask yourself before buying lube... What will you be using your lube for? Masturbating? Vaginal Sex? Anal Sex? Oral Sex? Will you be using it with toys? If so, what materials are your toys made out of?

Now that we got that out of the way we can get to the good stuff!

WATER-BASED

If you know absolutely nothing about lubes, water-based is your best option. It can be used by anyone, with anyone and with anything. Water-based is compatible with all toy materials, as well as all condom materials. X-citement recommends Gun Oil, SwissNavy, and Pink Water.

SILICONE-BASED

Silicone on the other hand, is better for more specific circumstances. Really, it should only be used for guys during mastubation. Ladies, stay away from this one. Va-jay-jays don't like silicone because it isn't absorbable. It also not recommended for anal sex for the same reason, and because the anus is unable to expel the silicone. Other things you should know... Silicone lubricant CANNOT be used with latex condoms or silicone toys. X-citement recommends Eros and SwissNavy

 FLAVOURED

Flavoured lubes have gotten a bad rep over the years so I'm here to dispel some myths for you.

Myth#1 All flavoured lubes are really sticky.
The Truth: Some are but most aren't. The stickiness is caused by sugar which is what was used to create the yummy flavours. Now most companies have moved away from using sugar in their lubes and found other alternatives making them sticky-free but still delicious.

Myth#2 Flavoured lubes should only be used for oral sex and not for vaginal sex.
The Truth: This is related to the first myth... Flavoured lubes that have sugar are still not recommended for vaginal sex because sugar causes things to happen to the vagina that nobody wants. Luckily, as I have already mentioned, most companies produce sugar-free lubricants that you can use instead.

There is a huge variety in flavours from fruits to cakes to soda pop for you to choose from. X-citement recommends the Cake collection. 4 different flavours to choose from (Cookie Dough, Angel Food Cake, Red Velvet Cake and Devil's Food Cake). Also, the packaging is adorable! I mean, who doesn't love 50's pin ups? And the bottles are also very discrete which is always a bonus.

ALL NATURAL

For those of you with sensitive skin or allergies, I would suggest giving this a try. This paraben,  glycerin, and petroleum free product is a great option if you are apprehensive about reactions. Also, it is water-based so it has all the added benefits of other water-based lubricants!

ANAL

The packaging on these may not be quite as appealing, but what they lack in visual sex appeal they make up for it in function. These are specially designed for anal sex and the nature of the anus itself. Since the anus cannot self lubricate like the penis or vagina it is more vulnerable to tearing, so it needs a little help. X-citement recommends Anal Lube.

If you are interested in giving any of these a test drive we have testers that you can try on your hand. We also have some small pillow packs that you can buy and try on other places... As always, if you have any questions feel free to stop by X-citement and ask!
